This endowed fund is for general needs at the school including high-quality facilities and equipment, resources to enhance learning, outstanding programs and faculty, and Christian ministry opportunities.
Dr. Ray Carty, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, said, “We are so thankful for the considerate commitment that Wes, Phyllis, and their family have made in establishing The Aloha Fund. They are investing in a strong future by endowing a fund that will support campus operations annually.”

Phyllis Van Meter and Wes Segawa met on the campus of College in 1970. Phyllis was raised on her family’s farm in Lewistown, Missouri, and earned her Associate of Arts Degree in Secretarial Science from HLG in 1971. The couple married at Lewistown Baptist Church on May 20, 1972, and two weeks later, moved to Hilo, Hawaii, where Wes, a native of Hawaii, continued his education and earned degrees in civil engineering and business from the University of Hawaii.
