HLGU Names Site Director for Prison Ministry /10417/ /10417/#respond Mon, 04 May 2020 15:39:38 +0000 http://hlg.frankandmaven.com/?p=10417 番茄社区 University is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Rodrick Sweet as the Jefferson City site director for Freedom on the Inside, the University鈥檚 new prison ministry program.

In partnership with the Missouri Department of Corrections (MDOC) and the Global Prison Seminaries Foundation, 番茄社区 University will provide theological education for long-term prisoners by offering an undergraduate Christian studies degree program within the maximum-security Jefferson City Correctional Center (JCCC), beginning this fall. The program鈥檚 goal is to equip offenders to work as field ministers in prisons across the state.

Sweet will be responsible for the administration and oversight of HLGU鈥檚 program at JCCC and be the primary point of contact for the program for HLGU, MDOC, and all other constituencies. He will also help raise money and awareness for support of the program.

鈥淲e are so excited to have a man of Rodrick鈥檚 character and competency join HLGU and lead this ministry initiative,鈥 stated Dr. Anthony Allen, HLGU President. 鈥淲hile we are always grateful to find people with Mr. Sweet鈥檚 commitment to the Scripture, biblical training, and ministry skill, we are especially gratified that he comes to us with prison ministry experience. In a prior role, Rodrick helped run one of the most successful ministry programs of this sort in the country. This will help tremendously in our implementation process as he has experience and expertise in this type of program.鈥

Sweet is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy with a concentration in homiletics and biblical theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) in Fort Worth, TX, and is slated to graduate from that program in the fall of 2021.

He served as pastor of New Horizon Bible Fellowship Church in Pearland, TX for 20 years, and from 2013-2019, served as the senior administrative associate at SWBTS, assisting with the seminary鈥檚 own maximum security prison program, teaching classes in biblical theology and pastoral leadership, preaching in the prison chapel, and establishing and overseeing a student chapel preaching ministry.

Sweet and his wife Cozette have been married for 12 years, and are the proud parents of their 8-year-old daughter, Rose. His hobbies include music, cooking, and taekwondo.

HLGU is still seeking financial support for Freedom on the Inside. For more information, or to donate, contact Dr. Ray Carty at 573.629.3094, or via email at rcarty@hlg.edu. Gifts can also be made online at hlg.edu/giving.

Pam is passionate about encouraging people of all ages to trust the Lord with all their hearts for all their lives and use the incredible influence God has given them to eternally impact their world. This is the subject of her first book Ripple Effects, to be released Mother鈥檚 Day 2019.

The daughter of an army colonel, Pam lived all over the world until she went to college at the University of Florida. She set out to gain influence by building an impressive college resume with a long list of accomplishments, only to discover the emptiness of exalting self. Through a series of what she calls 鈥淕od stories,鈥 Pam discovered the joy of investing herself in the lives of those in her sphere of influence. Her college resume ultimately included graduating with honors in journalism and communications and the shaping of her passion for life-impacting influence.

Pam and her husband Bob met in college and have now been married for over 40 years. They have five children and eight grandchildren.

Known as homeschool pioneers, Bob and Pam began teaching their children at home in 1982 before the term 鈥渉ome school鈥 had even been coined. Pam says that by God鈥檚 grace, all five of their children were homeschooled from kindergarten through high school, and all five received college scholarships.

The Tebows lived for a number of years in the Philippines, where Bob continues to have an ongoing ministry, the Bob Tebow Evangelistic Association (BTEA). Through the BTEA and numerous mission trips, over one million people are professing their faith in Jesus Christ every year. The Tebows also have an orphanage in the Philippines and ongoing ministries in several semi-closed Asian countries.

Pam loves speaking for women鈥檚 events, prolife, and other non-profit groups, and various events across the country. She has appeared on Good Morning America and other talk shows and won national awards, including Eagle Forum鈥檚 Woman of the Year and Witness in the Public Square awards in 2012, the Commission for Women鈥檚 Inspiring Woman of the Year award in 2013, Extraordinary Woman of the Year in 2015, and National Pro Life Recognition Award in 2017.

Women’s Volleyball Hosts Wounded Warrior Fundraiser /womens-volleyball-hosts-wounded-warrior-fundraiser/ /womens-volleyball-hosts-wounded-warrior-fundraiser/#respond Mon, 12 Sep 2016 17:51:11 +0000 http://hlg.frankandmaven.com/?p=1331 by Rebecca Sneed

The 番茄社区 University women’s volleyball program has elected to host an event to support the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) during the HLGU Homecoming weekend, Saturday, October 1, when the Trojans will play a game against Central Baptist College at 1 pm.

The volleyball players are currently selling t-shirts that can be purchased here prior to the game. Shirts ordered prior to September 13 will receive free shipping to HLGU. The shirt design can be viewed above.

The Trojans chose the WWP this year because they wanted to support the armed forces. The players have become student ambassadors for the WWP which allows them to hand out pamphlets, stickers, and wristbands supplied by and in support of the WWP whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors.

The women’s team will also be hosting a bake sale on October 1 to raise additional funds. HLGU will make a presentation about the WWP between the second and third set of the game against CBC.

Give now!

番茄社区 University will be hosting a three-day challenge encouraging all alumni and friends to give toward student scholarships online. The challenge is to raise $5,000 which will be given toward undergraduate student scholarships. Ninety-three percent of HLGU students receive financial aid in the form of scholarships, loans, grants, and work-study, making this endeavor an important one for the institution. This challenge will replace the previous annual phonathon and it will take place from April 26 to April 28. Those who are interested in donating may do so online at www.hlg.edu/give, or by calling 573-629-3124 to donate by VISA, MasterCard, and Discover.

Director of Alumni Services and Development Lauren Youse ’05 said, “Our goal with this campaign is to have 50 donors per day. The purpose is to bring HLGU donors and alumni together for three days, increase participation in giving to the University, and reconnect with our alumni in order to expand our mission of providing an excellent education in a distinctively Christian environment.”

The hashtag #HLGUDaysOfGiving will be used to link the giving challenge through social media. The platforms to be used are (www.facebook.com/HLGuniversity), (@HLGuniversity), (番茄社区 University), and (hlguniversity). Each social media account will be actively giving updates by sharing posts, photos, and thank you messages as the event takes place.
