Bevel is recognized by his roles as Lieutenant Michael Simmons in the 2008 inspirational movie Fireproof and for his role as Nathan Hayes in the 2011 movie Courageous.

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Bevel served in the United States Marine Corps before retiring to serve in ministry. He鈥檚 currently the pastor of Membership and Local Missions at Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia.

Bevel鈥檚 message to HLGU on Friday night encouraged generosity through investment into the students, faculty, and staff and 番茄社区.

鈥淚 believe you can make a huge impact on the world right here at 番茄社区 University,鈥 Bevel said. 鈥淚鈥檝e seen the spirit at work in the students at this school. I walked the campus and thought, 鈥榃hat a beautiful picture of men and women coming together for the glory of God.鈥欌

Bevel shared his incredible testimony with the packed audience in the Mabee Sports Complex. He came from a checkered past, but when he came to know the Lord, his life was quickly turned around.

鈥淎s a young man, I became hard-hearted and rebellious. I started going into the streets, doing things that were despicable in the eyes of the Lord, and I didn鈥檛 care. At the age of 17, I knew I was going to be dead, in jail, or on drugs if I didn鈥檛 figure it out.鈥

In order to try and get his life together, Ken joined the Marine Corps where he continued to get in trouble and struggled to get his life together. At perhaps his lowest point, he gave his life to Christ.

鈥淕od said in that moment, 鈥業 have something for you to do, and I need you to go and do it.鈥 The Lord and his mercy gave me a second chance. That day, God rescued me.鈥

Bevel went on to describe his ministry through his church that would go on to produce Fireproof and Courageous. While he had no prior acting experience, Ken felt called to act in the films and the church staff felt called to cast him. Both 鈥淔ireproof鈥 and 鈥淐ourageous鈥 went on to be huge successes.

鈥淚 started seeing the gifts and the body of Christ coming and serving together on those movie sets,鈥 Bevel said. 鈥渁nd I鈥檝e seen those similar things right here at 番茄社区 University.鈥

鈥淕od can use you,鈥 Bevel continued. 鈥淚f you鈥檙e thinking to yourself, 鈥榃hat can I do more with my life and what am I called to?鈥 I encourage you to think about the gifting that God has called you to. Use the gifts that God has given you, and employ them for the glory of God. When you do that, you will have decided to surrender all and give it all to Jesus.鈥

Prior to Bevel鈥檚 message, the audience was treated to a performance by the HLGU Chamber Choir as well as piano music from HLGU Instructor of Music Alyssa Pyne. The night was finished by a charge from HLGU President Dr. Anthony Allen.

鈥淵our support is needed,鈥 Dr. Allen said. 鈥淲e need you to join us now more than ever. The last two years have been difficult for higher education, especially institutions like 番茄社区 University. Join us in our mission to provide a high-quality Christian higher education.鈥

The 79th Annual HLGU Booster Banquet will feature Dr. Larry Lewis, Dr. Paul Brown, and Dr. Woodrow Burt

Despite being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 番茄社区 University Booster Banquet featuring HLGU legends Dr. Larry Lewis, Dr. Paul Brown, and Dr. Woodrow Burt can be viewed virtually.

鈥湻焉缜 University has been nurtured and supported throughout the years by dynamic Christian leadership,鈥 Dr. Allen said. 鈥淭his year鈥檚 Booster Banquet highlighted three of our past presidents. What a special time to reminisce about the faithfulness of God in our past, present, and future.鈥

Dr. Larry Lewis served as HLGU president from 1981-1987. He helped HLGU transition from a predominantly two-year institution to a four years. Dr. Paul Brown was president from 1987-1994 and led HLGU through the historic 1989 fire. Dr. Woodrow Burt served as president from 1995-2012. His presidency included great growth in enrollment and new buildings like the Roland Fine Arts Center and Roland Library.

鈥淚 was very disappointed that our live event had to be cancelled 鈥 but we did not want to risk the safety of our attendees, faculty, staff, and students,鈥 said Lauren Youse, director of alumni services and development. 鈥淥ur next best option was offering a virtual Booster Banquet. The video we created is actually a wonderful piece that has the advantage of being viewed and shared over and over again. I鈥檓 excited to have these great memories from our past presidents that we can archive and enjoy for years to come.鈥

After reaching out offer a refund to all those who had purchased tickets for the cancelled physical Booster Banquet, a vast majority of ticket holders encouraged HLGU to keep their contributions as a donation to the University.

鈥淭he generous support we receive through our alumni and friends is vital as we seek to provide Christ-centered higher education,鈥 Dr. Allen said. 鈥淵our hearts will be warmed by the testimony of our legends.鈥

Next year鈥檚 Booster Banquet is currently scheduled for November 19, 2021. For more information about HLGU鈥檚 annual Booster Banquet, please contact Lauren Youse, at 573-629-3126, or via email at lauren.youse@hlg.edu.

Tebow Encourages Investors at HLGU Booster Banquet /tebow-encourages-investors-at-hlgu-booster-banquet/ /tebow-encourages-investors-at-hlgu-booster-banquet/#respond Tue, 03 Dec 2019 18:03:40 +0000 http://hlg.frankandmaven.com/?p=9041 Pam Tebow鈥檚 recent address at 番茄社区 University鈥檚 Booster Banquet is being heralded as a great success for the institution.

Tebow鈥檚 message centered on the importance of putting God first and how a Christian education can provide a strong foundation for a faith-filled life.

鈥淚nvesting in this school is worth it,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hey combine faith and learning. They are not two separate subjects. They go together. I love that about this University.鈥

鈥淚鈥檓 just so amazed,鈥 Tebow continued. 鈥淭he more I learn, the more excited I become to be able to speak on your behalf.鈥

Pam Tebow is the mother of Tim Tebow, famous NFL quarterback. Pam鈥檚 notoriety increased when Tim, then quarterback for the Florida Gators, became the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy. During the nationally televised Heisman broadcast, ESPN aired a portion of an interview that focused on her refusal to abort Tim when she was advised to do so during the high-risk pregnancy.

鈥淥n national television there was suddenly a prolife message, and a prolife ministry that followed,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 God! That鈥檚 our master writing his incredible stories, and as we trust him and develop our faith muscles, he comes through and does more than we ever could even imagine in our lives, and in the lives of the people we鈥檝e impacted.鈥

As Tebow and her husband Bob raised and homeschooled their five kids, they taught them to think like servants, saying 鈥淵ou鈥檙e going to be great because you serve,鈥 a way of life that ties in well with HLGU鈥檚 motto, 鈥渒nowledge for service.鈥

鈥淵ou just don鈥檛 learn, you learn so you can use it to serve the people that you connect with,鈥 Tebow said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 how you impact lives. You serve people.鈥

She continued to encourage those in attendance to 鈥渨ork for those things that last forever鈥 saying that people, souls, last forever.

鈥淲hen you invest in eternal things, then you get eternal rewards,鈥 she said. 鈥淚nvesting in HLGU is an eternal investment. You鈥檙e investing in the lives of these kids in a distinctively Christian school to learn all they can and prepare for a life of honoring Him, and they go out and they will impact their world for Christ.鈥

鈥淕od sees everything we do for the cause of Christ and he allows you to be exposed to the missions that he wants you to be involved in,鈥 said Tebow as she wrapped up her message. 鈥淚鈥檝e just been so impressed. I do a lot of fundraisers and this is one I absolutely have no doubt about. As I鈥檝e met so many people and talked to people from the professors to the students to the very proud alumni to the people in their families, I鈥檓 convinced that this is a distinctive Christian school that honors their master, that has a biblical world view, and that has a mission statement to impact their world for Christ.鈥

Prior to Tebow鈥檚 address, HLGU鈥檚 ministry team Praise Song took the stage to perform a selection of their praise and worship pieces from the semester.

The event was sponsored in part by HNB Bank and WGEM, and the evening was closed out by Dr. Anthony Allen, HLGU President, who appealed to those in attendance to support the students at HLGU.

鈥淲e desire that the University would have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students to make a ripple effect in the world in changing people鈥檚 lives,鈥 said Dr. Allen. 鈥淲e鈥檙e making a difference here.鈥

The 2020 Booster Banquet has been tentatively scheduled for November 20. For more information about HLGU鈥檚 annual Booster Banquet, please contact Lauren Youse, director of alumni services and development at 573-629-3126, or via email at lauren.youse@hlg.edu.

Pam is passionate about encouraging people of all ages to trust the Lord with all their hearts for all their lives and use the incredible influence God has given them to eternally impact their world. This is the subject of her first book Ripple Effects, to be released Mother鈥檚 Day 2019.

The daughter of an army colonel, Pam lived all over the world until she went to college at the University of Florida. She set out to gain influence by building an impressive college resume with a long list of accomplishments, only to discover the emptiness of exalting self. Through a series of what she calls 鈥淕od stories,鈥 Pam discovered the joy of investing herself in the lives of those in her sphere of influence. Her college resume ultimately included graduating with honors in journalism and communications and the shaping of her passion for life-impacting influence.

Pam and her husband Bob met in college and have now been married for over 40 years. They have five children and eight grandchildren.

Known as homeschool pioneers, Bob and Pam began teaching their children at home in 1982 before the term 鈥渉ome school鈥 had even been coined. Pam says that by God鈥檚 grace, all five of their children were homeschooled from kindergarten through high school, and all five received college scholarships.

The Tebows lived for a number of years in the Philippines, where Bob continues to have an ongoing ministry, the Bob Tebow Evangelistic Association (BTEA). Through the BTEA and numerous mission trips, over one million people are professing their faith in Jesus Christ every year. The Tebows also have an orphanage in the Philippines and ongoing ministries in several semi-closed Asian countries.

Pam loves speaking for women鈥檚 events, prolife, and other non-profit groups, and various events across the country. She has appeared on Good Morning America and other talk shows and won national awards, including Eagle Forum鈥檚 Woman of the Year and Witness in the Public Square awards in 2012, the Commission for Women鈥檚 Inspiring Woman of the Year award in 2013, Extraordinary Woman of the Year in 2015, and National Pro Life Recognition Award in 2017.
