The exhibit will be open October 6 through November 9 at the Hagerman Art Gallery in the Roland Fine Arts Center.

Bill Krehmeier was born in Monette, MO. He studied in his home state, earning his teaching degree in art from Southwest Missouri State College (currently known as Missouri State University). After some time, Krehmeier received a fellowship to The Ohio State University to earn a master鈥檚 degree. With his studies complete, he challenged himself by studying in several school districts across the state, and even became a commercial artist for Maritz of St. Louis.

Despite retiring from teaching, Krehmeier eventually found himself teaching part-time here at HLGU. It was clear his passion for art would not end with retirement because he later became a full-time instructor for commercial art as well as art methods classes for elementary and secondary teachers.

Krehmeier鈥檚 art depicts a variety of subjects including a combination of flowers, old barns, and rusty cars. He even claimed that his favorite color was rust. This charming style of his drew him to subjects that were abandoned; he appreciated the idea that it appeared the owner had just walked away and never looked back.

Krehmeier鈥檚 work is mostly comprised of acrylics, but he did take up watercolor in his later years, just for the sake of a challenge.

For more information on the exhibit, contact Michael Chlebanowski, associate professor of art, at 573-629-3176 or via email at mchlebanowski@hlg.edu.

HLGU Alumni Art Exhibit Features Gray and Sneed /hlgu-alumni-art-exhibit-features-gray-sneed/ /hlgu-alumni-art-exhibit-features-gray-sneed/#respond Thu, 28 Sep 2017 15:56:49 +0000 http://hlg.frankandmaven.com/?p=4370 番茄社区 University鈥檚 Art Department is presenting an opening reception for guest alumni artists Casi Gray 鈥08 and Neil Sneed 鈥12 on Friday, October 6, at 6 pm in the Hagerman Art Gallery of the Roland Fine Arts Center.

The exhibit is on display now through October 13. The gallery will be open Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Casi Erin Gray, an Illinois native, works as fine artist, graphic designer and art instructor. She believes it is important for people of all ages to have a creative outlet, and is proud to be a part of her local art community.

Inspired by the beauty and details in everyday life, Gray acknowledges that her art will never compare to the magnificence of God’s words, but hopes to portray that everything has a purpose and everyone has a story.

Photographer and videographer Neil Sneed grew up in St. Peters, MO, and found he had an eye for photography in high school when he would borrow his mom鈥檚 digital camera and get creative with the photos he took. He then bought his first camera, a used, early-model Canon Rebel, and he began to see improvement in his skill.

Sneed graduated from HLGU in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Arts and an emphasis in broadcast journalism. While at HLGU, he was afforded an opportunity to work with the International Mission Board in South Africa for a semester. He and other teammates would travel across Africa capturing the lives of other missionaries on video. It was this real-world experience, along with some of the hands-on teaching of his instructors, that challenged and developed Sneed鈥檚 videography gift.

鈥淕od gave me a talent and I love being able to use it. I love telling people鈥檚 stories, and I can do that through video and photos,鈥 Sneed said.

Today, Sneed works as a promotions producer for KHQA and runs his own photo and video business. His video work with the Hannibal Police Department and HEET Initiative (Heroine Enforcement Education Treatment) has been played throughout Missouri schools and in communities in the tri-state area. For more examples of his work, visit neilsneedphotovideo.com.

For more information on the exhibit, contact Michael Chlebanowski, art department chair, at 573-629-3176 or via email at mchlebanowski@hlg.edu.

100-Year-Old Artist Featured at HLGU Gallery /100-year-old-artist-featured-hlgu-gallery/ /100-year-old-artist-featured-hlgu-gallery/#respond Wed, 11 Jan 2017 21:24:46 +0000 http://hlg.frankandmaven.com/?p=1821 by Rebecca Sneed

番茄社区 University鈥檚 Art Department is pleased to announce an exhibit by Len Moss, a local, 100-year-old artist and WWII veteran. The exhibit will run January 10, through February 2, with a special opening reception on Friday, January 27, at 6 pm.

Born on December 13, 1916, Moss鈥 colorful life is reflected in his paintings. After graduating with a degree in art in 1938, he went on to ride freight trains across the US during the depression. He worked on a fishing schooner off the coast of Newfoundland, and served the US Navy in WWII, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War before retiring in 1967.

Moss paints landscapes, portraits, and still life. Sometimes his art is inspired by his naval career, and sometimes it鈥檚 just because the subject itself is inspiring.

鈥淟iving this long, while it鈥檚 a privilege, it also has its drawbacks,鈥 he said. 鈥淏ut I鈥檓 not complaining, just stating the facts.鈥

For more information on the exhibit, contact Michael Chlebanowski, associate professor of art, at 573-629-3176 or via email at mchlebanowski@hlg.edu.
