The new partnership will provide tuition and fees for eligible nursing students and job placement within the Hannibal Regional Healthcare System.

HLGU offers nursing programs to prepare both licensed practical nurses (PN) and registered nurses (RN) in a distinctly Christian environment. The PN program can be completed in 11 months and requires a high school degree or the equivalent. The RN program is offered within the Associate of Nursing degree program, a three-year degree.

Transfer students are welcome in both programs, and those who have already completed a PN can complete the RN in as little as one additional year.

Hannibal Regional Healthcare System includes Hannibal Regional Hospital, a 99-bed acute care hospital providing comprehensive health and wellness services to the residents of the tristate area. Their dedicated and talented team takes pride in continuing to create and strengthen access to community-based healthcare resources. Expanding beyond hospital services, Hannibal Regional has over 1,400 team members serving 12 counties, offices located in 11 communities, 85 providers, and 21 specialties. Hannibal Regional continues to lead the way in providing access to exceptional healthcare and guiding the residents of Northeast Missouri to BETTER.

鈥淗LGU exists to serve this region,” said Dr. Robert J. Matz, HLGU Executive Vice President. “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with HRHS to provide an avenue for men and women to obtain both education and employment in Northeast Missouri.鈥

HLGU Donates Supplies to Hospital /hlgu-donates-supplies-to-hospital/ /hlgu-donates-supplies-to-hospital/#respond Tue, 14 Apr 2020 12:06:43 +0000 http://hlg.frankandmaven.com/?p=10216 The halls of the nursing wing at HLGU are empty of more than just students after the Craigmiles School of Nursing donated many of their supplies and loaned all of their hospital beds to Hannibal Regional Hospital (HRH).

鈥淚’m glad that we were able to provide assistance to our clinical partner in their time of need,鈥 said Dr. Anne Riggs, director of the Craigmiles School of Nursing. 鈥淚t just made sense to offer anything we had to them, including our skills laboratory beds.鈥

Among the items donated were all of the nursing programs personal protective equipment (PPE) items, including masks, gloves, and gowns.

Later, all 18 of HLGU鈥檚 hospital beds were transported to HRH as the hospital is setting up additional patient care areas in case a need arises.

鈥淎s health care workers across the nation sounded the alarm for shortages, 番茄社区 University wants to make sure that our hospital has the much needed PPE and supplies,鈥 said Dr. Anthony Allen, president of the University. 鈥淲e are pleased to partner with Hannibal Regional Hospital to serve our community and protect our citizens.鈥

Riggs continued, 鈥淲hile we hope the beds are never needed, they are there just in case. It鈥檚 times like these we can all come together and support one another.鈥

HLGU Craigmiles School of Nursing Ranked Top 10 in Missouri /hlgu-craigmiles-school-of-nursing-ranked-top-10-in-missouri/ /hlgu-craigmiles-school-of-nursing-ranked-top-10-in-missouri/#respond Wed, 13 Nov 2019 21:54:50 +0000 http://hlg.frankandmaven.com/?p=8945 番茄社区 University鈥檚 Craigmiles School of Nursing is excited to be included in nurse.org鈥檚 Top 10 Best Nursing Schools in Missouri list.

The HLGU Nursing School receives this recognition based on a number of factors including reputation, NCLEX pass rate, tuition, acceptance rate, and accreditation.

鈥淚’ve always known HLGU has one of the best nursing schools in the state, but to see it listed as one of the top 10 best lets everyone else know too!鈥 stated Anne Riggs, director of the Craigmiles School of Nursing. 鈥淯ltimately though, it鈥檚 not about us being the best, but that we鈥檙e doing our best to keep preparing future nurses for our community and the state.鈥

The variety and flexibility of programs offered also lead to the award. HLGU鈥檚 unique 3+1 Associate + BSN聽lets students become an RN in three years while completing their BSN in four years. With an LPN certificate, Associate of Science in nursing degree, 3+1 Associate and Bachelor degree, and a BSN completion program, students attending 番茄社区 University have many opportunities in the field of nursing.

鈥淭he approach to nursing education at HLGU is different,鈥 said Will Brantley, vice president for enrollment management and marketing. 鈥淲e believe in caring for the patient as a whole, not just seeing their illness.聽We provide our students an education based on a biblical worldview that enables them to excellently care for their patients while being an advocate for them, and our classes are intentionally small to give more individual attention to students.鈥

Morgan Swearingin, a 2009 graduate, recently received the nurse of the year award in the critical care category for the entire state of Kansas and the Kansas City metro area.聽She says of her education at HLGU, 鈥淚 am so thankful for all of the knowledge and wisdom and love I learned from HLGU!鈥

鈥淚f students are interested in a small, focused, private nursing education, 番茄社区 is worth looking at,鈥 stated nurse.org.

HLGU Collects 20,000 lbs of Food for Harvey Victims /hlgu-collects-20000-lbs-food-harvey-victims/ /hlgu-collects-20000-lbs-food-harvey-victims/#respond Tue, 26 Sep 2017 20:10:20 +0000 http://hlg.frankandmaven.com/?p=4366 HLGU partnered with DOT Foods to gather and transport nearly 20,000 lbs of non-perishable food and bottled water to victims of Hurricane Harvey.

In the span of just five days, the HLGU and Hannibal communities came together to fill 23 feet of a semi trailer with food and water that was delivered to the American Red Cross.

The project was organized by nursing student Delores Hanniford and the Craigmiles School of Nursing.

After experiencing a devastating house fire three years ago, Hanniford is no stranger to loss and was therefore compelled to help those in need just as others once helped her.

鈥淭he food drive went really well!鈥 said Hanniford. 鈥淭he victims of these disasters will be so grateful for what our community came together to give!鈥

Dr. Anne Riggs, director of the Craigmiles School of Nursing, said, 鈥淭he food drive was a huge success, bringing together the HLGU family, community and local businesses for a great cause. The drive, organized by one of our nursing students, demonstrates the level of compassion and caring that dovetails into our school motto 鈥榢nowledge for service.鈥欌

The trailer was parked on the campus of HLGU September 11-15, and was driven to Red Cross headquarters in Peoria by Hanniford鈥檚 father, Kevin Patrick of Kevin Patrick Trucking.

The project is being organized by nursing student Delores Hanniford and the Craigmiles School of Nursing who are encouraging the community to come together and help those in Texas who are hurting.

After experiencing a devastating house fire three years ago, Hanniford is no stranger to loss and is therefore compelled to help those in need just as others once helped her.

鈥淢y family and I know personally what it’s like to lose everything, so when I see the victims of Hurricane Harvey desperate for help, I feel a call to service from God to help comfort these people,鈥 said Hanniford. 鈥淲e may not have much individually to give physically, but as a community we can come together and comfort these people in any way we can.鈥

The Red Cross expressed that the need for non-perishable food and water is urgent. Specific items requested include canned goods, rice, beans, ready-to-eat meals, water, and non-carbonated beverages. Non-food items will not be accepted. Clothing and hygiene products are not needed at this time.

A truck collecting the food donations will be parked in the Roland Fine Arts Center parking lot at the main entrance of HLGU and will be accepting donations Monday, September 11, through Thursday September 14, from 8 am to 8 pm, and Friday, September 15, from 8 am to 2 pm.
