HLGU Offering One-Time Scholarship to May 2020 Graduates to have a Chance to reclaim “Senior Year” Experience /hlgu-offering-one-time-scholarship-to-may-2020-graduates-to-have-a-chance-to-reclaim-senior-year-experience/ /hlgu-offering-one-time-scholarship-to-may-2020-graduates-to-have-a-chance-to-reclaim-senior-year-experience/#respond Thu, 16 Apr 2020 16:10:14 +0000 http://hlg.frankandmaven.com/?p=10226 In an effort to give ·¬ÇŃÉçÇř University graduating seniors a chance to reclaim a “senior year” experience, HLGU has approved a one-time scholarship for the academic year 2020-2021 to students graduating in May 2020, or completing their graduation requirements by the start of fall 2020. This scholarship will help them work toward a master’s degree at HLGU.

Those students who complete their undergraduate coursework from May to August 2020 will have the choice of a 50% tuition scholarship for one year of coursework leading to a master’s degree at HLGU provided the student lives in on-campus housing, or a 25% tuition scholarship for one year of coursework leading to a master’s degree at HLGU if the student lives in off-campus housing.

“We understand that this time is difficult for all our students, but especially hard for our students who were in their last semester of classes at HLGU,” said Will Brantley, vice president for enrollment management and marketing. “They are missing out on so many things that make the final months of their senior year special. The HLGU administration wanted to offer our current graduating seniors this special scholarship as a way to help with the loss of their last semester of college and as a way to potentially help them map out their next year at such an uncertain time.”

These scholarships cannot be combined with any other institutional aid or tuition concessions. Many of HLGU’s master’s degrees can be completed in one year. However, if the master’s degree completion is longer than the 2020-2021 academic year, any subsequent classes would be charged at the regular rate.

This scholarship will also benefit spring sport seniors. In March 2020, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) officially announced, “In an effort to provide relief, no spring sport student-athlete will be charged a season of competition. Any spring sport student-athlete who was enrolled full-time in 2020 will be awarded two additional semester terms of attendance or the equivalent.”

“I’m excited for this opportunity for all student-athletes, especially those whose spring seasons did not happen as a result of COVID-19,” said Jason Nichols, HLGU athletic director. “The NAIA extending another season of competition to these students is also a blessing that enables this measure to happen. I hope many take this into serious consideration. It’s a great time to earn a graduate degree and become more marketable in the workforce.”
