External Transcript Evaluation

Evaluation process

 

While your evaluation request is in-progress, see an academic counselor for course planning and registration.

Napa Valley College does not require official transcripts from external institutions to be submitted as a condition of admissions to the college. 

External college transcripts are not automatically evaluated for acceptance of transfer credits. Students must request a transcript evaluation from the Admissions and Records Office.

We accept coursework from colleges and universities that are Institutionally accredited by the following agencies:  

  • Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) 
  • Higher Learning Commission (HLC), formerly North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
  • Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) 
  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) 
  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) 
  • New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (NEASC-CIHE) 
  • WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)

Official transcripts may be sent electronically but they must come directly from the college or university. If sent via email, the transcript link must be encrypted.

Transcript evaluation is not required before registering for classes with prerequisites. A completed evaluation does not guarantee prerequisite clearance.

To register for courses that have prerequisites which you may have completed at an external institution, submit a prerequisite equivalency petition for registration clearance 

  •  (To be used before a Registration Period)
  •   (Must include section information and unofficial transcript with your name and institution visible- To be used during Registration Period)

 

All external transcripts must be submitted to process evaluation requests.

On the request form you will need to choose the major and general education pattern you will be pursuing. For out of state, private, and dated coursework, course syllabi may be required.

 

The standard transcript evaluation process is 8-10 weeks. Processing times may be longer during peak times. The transcript evaluator will make exceptions to the standard processing time for students with urgencies such as deadlines or related student needs. 

Once your evaluation request is finalized, you will receive a completed form via DocuSign. Your next step is to follow up with a counselor to review your coursework transferred in. 

Students who want to use coursework from a foreign college or university need to have their transcript(s) evaluated by an international evaluating service before they submit a request for a transcript evaluation from Napa Valley College. 

We accept evaluations from international evaluating services that are current members of Coursework will only be accepted from accredited institutions 

Acceptance of International Coursework to meet NVC Associate Degree General Education Requirements
 
NVC General Education shall exclude Area A1 (1a): English Composition and (1b): Oral Communication and Critical Thinking. 
Exceptions to Areas 1a, 1b may be made at the discretion of the college designee (Evaluator, Articulation Officer, College discipline faculty as appropriate) on a case-by-case basis.
 
International Coursework and Cal-GETC Certifications
 
Coursework completed at International Institutions (non-United States institutionally accredited institutions) may not be applied towards Cal-GETC certification per the Cal-GETC Standards (insert Standards web link).
