Hannibal, MO – HLG held our 68th annual Booster Banquet on Friday, November 20, with the theme of 鈥淓xpect a Miracle.鈥� Over 600 guests were in attendance.
鈥淚n these 68 years we have had some outstanding Booster Banquet speakers,鈥� said Dr. Woodrow Burt, HLG President. 鈥淎nd I believe tonight we鈥檙e in store for a wonderful treat.鈥�
This year鈥檚 banquet featured best-selling author, leader of various global and humanitarian causes, and media producer, Bruce Wilkinson.
Author of over 60 books in 30 languages, he has been #1 in New York Times, #1 in the Wall Street Journal, and #1 in USA Today.聽 His is the only book in history to win 鈥淏ook of the Year鈥� two years in a row.聽 Publisher鈥檚 Weekly reported The Prayer of Jabez as the 鈥渇astest selling book of all time鈥� (2001).聽 The only religious non-fiction to hit the #1 New York Times best-seller list in the first week was Wilkinson鈥檚 A Life God Rewards.聽 He has served on the Overview Committee of the New King James Version of the Bible, as well as the author of the Outlines of the Books of the Bible for the best-selling Open Bible, and is Executive Editor of three Bibles.聽 Wilkinson is the author of The Prayer of Jabez, The Secrets of the Vine, A Life God Rewards, Beyond Jabez, Set Apart, Experiencing Spiritual Breakthroughs, and The DreamGiver.
Dr. Wilkinson has built the largest seminar organization to the religious market in the world and has been the keynote speaker to President鈥檚, CEO鈥檚, Marriage and Family conferences and major national events.
He launched Heart for Africa (previously Dream for Africa) which mobilized first-world volunteers who planted over 500,000 backyard vegetable gardens for the orphans and hungry.聽 Wilkinson also launched the 鈥淏eat the Drum for AIDS鈥� movement and recruited over 1,000 college students from eleven nations to conduct week-long AIDS training in every high school in the #1 HIV/AIDS nation in the world with dramatic results solidified by various local initiatives.聽 At the request of the President of Kenya (President Moi), Dr. Wilkinson worked to produce the most award-winning motion picture on AIDS:聽 Beat the Drum (28 awards), now in distribution in over 100 nations.聽 He has been a featured guest on many major television and radio shows, and has been a keynote speaker on over a hundred internationally distributed video/TV sessions.聽 He is currently working on a new major Hollywood motion picture.
Wilkinson is married to Darlene with three children and six grandchildren.聽 The Wilkinson鈥檚 reside in Atlanta, Georgia.
鈥淭o be a school that鈥檚 over 150 years old, and still believes the Bible the way you do, and committed to missions the way you do,鈥� said Wilkinson. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 know of another school in America that鈥檚 like that, and I鈥檝e spoken at a lot of schools and universities.鈥�
Wilkinson鈥檚 most recent book You Were Born for This: 7 Keys to a Life of Predictable Miracles was published in September of this year, and was the basis for most of his comments during the banquet. 鈥淚 want to talk to you about 鈥楨xpect a Miracle,鈥欌�� said Wilkinson. 鈥淓xpecting a miracle doesn鈥檛 usually result in one. But what would happen if you would learn how to actually partner with God so that miracles became 鈥榥ormal鈥� for you, literally like the book of Acts read. Well that鈥檚 what this book is about.鈥�
鈥淎 miracle is what happens when someone has a need. If nobody has a need there鈥檚 no miracle,鈥� said Wilkinson. 鈥淎lmost all the miracles of the Bible are when God did one through a human being. He wanted to do something and needed a human being to be His partner.鈥�
Wilkinson went on to give numerous examples from his own life as well as those given to him by readers of his book who had put his principles into practice in their own lives; listening to God鈥檚 will instead of questioning it, and seeing extraordinary results. 鈥淢iracles.鈥�
鈥淲e have had some wonderful Booster Banquet speakers over the years, but I thought Bruce Wilkinson was one of the most inspiring speakers we have ever had,鈥� said Dr. Burt.
The evening also included performances by the 番茄社区 College聽Jazz Band and Concert Choir, and a book signing by Wilkinson.
